Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)

Little Egret

I spotted this Little Egret near boats anchored on the Sava River. It was using the ropes and debris for a perch to hunt for fish. The Little Egret is one of the most common water birds in Europe. It is the Old World counterpart to the Snowy Egret in Latin America. Like the snowy egret, the Little Egret has the bright yellow feet that contrast with the black legs.

They have adapted to urban areas and are spreading quickly around the world. They are a common sight in temperate wetlands around the world.
