We spotted this big fellow on the steps of our house one morning on the way to school. It is also known as the Tiger Slug or Spotted Leopard Slug for obvious reasons. Slugs are snails without shells.

They are harmless and feed on rotting plant material or fungi. They have some strange mating behavior that I have not seen yet. Many consider a garden pest as they will eat fruits and vegetables. The “great slug” is aptly named in the Latin for its great size, which can reach up to 8 inches (20cm). They are native to Europe, but are now found almost world wide.
