Great Tit (Parus major)

This is a pretty common bird here in Belgrade. I photographed these two in a tree right outside my window in mid-November. The Great Tit is in the same family as the American Chickadee. Like its cousin, the Great Tit does not migrate. It is found throughout Europe and into Asia and Africa.

They readily nest in artificial boxes which I’ll have to bring back from the USA next summer to see if they will nest in them for us in our yard. They are primarily insectivores and have a call that sounds like (teacher, teacher). Pretty appropriate for our family!

The Serbian name is Velika senica.
