This week the second of our two types of Magnolia trees in our yard peaked! The flowers are different from the first species, the flowers are more erect and tulip-shaped, and have a darker color. They are purple-pink on the outside and white on the inside. The species is supposed to have a long flowering season, so we hope to see more as spring proceeds.

The tree is native to southwest China where it is no longer found in the wild. It is a popular tree for gardens in Europe and America. It came to Europe from Japan, and it is sometimes known as the Japanese Magnolia despite orignating in China.

  1. Hello,

I was looking for photos of Tulip Magnolias and came across your photos and blog. I live in North Carolina, USA and we are planning to create a courtyard garden with a Tulip Magnolia. I noticed that the buildings and surrounding architecture are similar to what we’re planning. I was wondering if you have more photos of your courtyard to email to me. It’s amazing how via the Internet your photos and messages are inspiring a homeowner in North Carolina! Thank you for sharing your ideas and beautiful pictures.

    Val
