Above is the Common or English Primrose. It is one of the earliest flowers to come out in the spring, hence the name, prim (first) rose. There are several primroses coming up in my yard, on the steps leading up to our house from the road, and I’ve also seen them on the school grounds. In the UK, they are becoming rare because people collect them for their gardens. The primrose is found all throughout Europe and into Asia. They prefer shady places and they are a short-lived perennial species. It belongs to a large family for plants, many used as garden flowers.
