Common Carder Bee (Bombas sp.)

This is one of the most common bees one will see in urban areas. I found this specimen on the campus of the ISB Middle School last week. The Carder Bee is easy to identify as it is mostly brown or ginger. Due to is large geographical range, the color varies greatly. It has a long tongue and nests on the ground in colonies. I want to learn more about bees and beekeeping because I want to learn how to make my own honey.
