Daurian Redstart

I encountered this male Daurian Redstart (Phoenicurus auroras) on a morning bike ride. It was sallying from the top of a fence over a small pond in a park near my house. It is an Old World Flycatcher and true to its family, it catches insects in the air.

I didn’t see the drab colored female and hope to get a better photo of the bird. It is known as jobitaki in Japanese.
