Oriental Turtle Dove

In the agricultural fields near the Minoh Park, I spotted this Oriental Turtle Dove (Streptopelia orientalis) on our way back home. I have also seen this species on my back patio, so it seems to do well in suburban areas. It is also known as the Rufous Dove, as you can see by the reddish tint on the wing feathers.

The Oriental turtle dove has a large range, from central Asia, through India, Russia and China to Japan. Its most distinctive feature is the black and white neck patch.
